ChatGPT Ads Agency for US Businesses

Marfa Digitals is a Dallas-based performance marketing agency that plans, launches and measures ChatGPT ads. We handle Ads Manager setup, tracking and landing pages, then judge every campaign on qualified leads and revenue next to your Google and Meta results.

Updated November 3, 2026. Platform facts checked against OpenAI’s documentation.

What Are ChatGPT Ads?

ChatGPT ads are paid, clearly labeled placements that appear below ChatGPT’s responses when an advertiser’s offer fits the conversation. OpenAI began testing them in the United States on February 9, 2026, and they are now available in 89 countries. Businesses buy them through the self-serve Ads Manager or technology partners, and pay per impression or per valid click. Ads do not change ChatGPT’s answers.

People use ChatGPT to compare options before they decide, which makes it a new way to reach buyers earlier than a Google search. As a ChatGPT ads agency inside our performance marketing team, we run it as one channel in a measured mix, with capped budgets and tracking in place before launch.

ChatGPT Ads vs Google Ads vs Meta Ads

The main difference is where the buyer is in the decision. Google catches people ready to act, Meta creates demand, and ChatGPT reaches people working through a question. For more on the older channels, see Google Ads vs Meta Ads vs TikTok Ads.

How Much Do ChatGPT Ads Cost?

ChatGPT ads cost at least $25 per day per campaign in USD accounts, or about $750 a month. Beyond that minimum there is no rate card. OpenAI runs a relevance-weighted, second-price auction, so your actual price depends on your bid, your relevance and the competition. Industry reports have put CPMs at roughly $25 to $60 by category, but treat that as a rough guide rather than a quote.

ChatGPT ads campaign objectives and billing
ObjectiveYou payBest for
Views (CPM)Per 1,000 impressionsReach and awareness
Clicks (CPC)Per valid click. OpenAI recommends starting at a $3 to $5 maximum bidTraffic to a landing page, and most first tests
Conversions (oCPC)Per valid click, while delivery favors your chosen conversion eventLeads, sign-ups or purchases, once tracking works
Conversions (oCPM)Per 1,000 impressions, while delivery favors your chosen conversion eventConversion goals where eligible

Budget example: at the $25 daily minimum, $750 a month buys roughly 150 to 250 clicks if clicks cost $3 to $5. Daily spend can reach twice your budget on a given day, but stays within seven times the daily budget across the budget week. Agency management is a separate cost.

Running a med spa, clinic or other regulated business? Confirm eligibility before you plan a budget. Ads also cannot appear next to conversations about personal health, mental health or politics, whatever your category. Our first step is to check this for you against OpenAI’s current ad policies.

01How ChatGPT Decides Which Ad to Show

There are no keywords to bid on. You give each ad group context hints that describe the conversations, topics or problems where your offer is relevant. OpenAI is clear that hints guide matching but are not exact-match keywords and do not guarantee delivery. The system also weighs the ad’s title, copy and landing page, so a thin page can hold back a good bid.

Because ranking combines relevance with your bid, specific ads tend to beat vague ones. We write for the real question: what it costs, how options compare, and who the offer suits. Then we make sure the landing page answers it. OpenAI’s review covers the title, copy, image and landing page, and it rejects misleading claims, so we keep promises accurate.

02How to Track ChatGPT Ads Properly

OpenAI shares aggregated performance data with advertisers, such as views and clicks, and never your prospects’ chats. Conversions therefore depend on your own setup. We install the JavaScript pixel and, where possible, the Conversions API, which OpenAI calls the more reliable source of the two. Every landing page URL also carries UTM parameters, so ChatGPT traffic stands apart in analytics.

Leads are then logged in your CRM with their source, so we can follow them to booked jobs or completed orders. We also track phone calls for businesses that sell by phone. Two details matter: conversion campaigns optimize toward one standard event that cannot be changed later, and OpenAI’s ad-review crawlers can appear as paid visits in analytics. We account for both in reporting.

03Is Your Business Ready to Test ChatGPT Ads?

Before recommending a test, we check four things: an offer a stranger understands in one sentence, a landing page that loads fast on mobile and answers the obvious questions, tracking that records calls, forms and sales by source, and a budget that can cover a learning period of at least $750 a month without hurting campaigns that already produce revenue.

If a piece is missing, we fix it first. Those fixes usually lift results on Google Ads and Facebook and Instagram ads as well, so the work pays off either way. If your core campaigns are struggling, a PPC audit is the better first step.

04ChatGPT Ads vs Showing Up in ChatGPT’s Answers

Paid placements and organic recommendations are separate. An ad buys a labeled spot below a response. Being named inside the response depends on what the web says about your business: your content, reviews and mentions on credible sites. No advertiser can pay for that.

The two work well together. A strong SEO foundation and generative engine optimization build the organic presence, while ads put you in front of people who would not otherwise find you. Local businesses can also read how to get recommended in Google AI Mode.

ChatGPT Ads FAQ

A ChatGPT ads agency plans, launches and optimizes campaigns in OpenAI’s Ads Manager. At Marfa Digitals that means checking whether your category is eligible, setting up the account, writing context hints and ad copy, building landing pages, installing the pixel and Conversions API, and reporting results next to your Google and Meta campaigns.

Sign up at ads.openai.com if your business is in a supported country, verify the account and add billing. Then create a campaign with an objective (Views, Clicks or Conversions), a budget and target countries, add ad groups with context hints, and submit ads with a title, copy, image and landing page. Ads run after they pass review.

There is no fixed price. Ads are sold through a relevance-weighted, second-price auction. The minimum daily budget is $25 per campaign in USD accounts, and OpenAI recommends starting with a maximum bid of $3 to $5 per click for Clicks campaigns. At that minimum, plan on about $750 a month in media before management fees.

Ads may appear for users on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts do not see ads, and neither do accounts identified as belonging to people under 18 or Temporary Chats. That matters for B2B, because many decision makers use paid plans at work.

No. OpenAI says ads run on systems separate from the chat model and that advertisers cannot shape, rank or alter ChatGPT’s responses. Ads are labeled and shown separately from the answer.

Yes. Local services are one of the categories OpenAI lists as supported, and standard campaigns can target supported states, cities, markets and postal codes where available. Local demand is still usually captured faster by Google Search and Local Services Ads, so we treat ChatGPT as an addition.

OpenAI currently disallows ads for adult content and dating, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, recreational drugs, political content and individual job or housing listings. Financial services and many health services are reviewed case by case in the US and are generally prohibited elsewhere. Legal services are allowed in the US only for advertisers licensed where the ad appears.

No. Google Search and Local Services Ads usually capture people ready to buy now, and they stay the backbone for most local businesses. ChatGPT reaches people while they compare options, so it works best as a separately capped budget that earns more spend through results.

We install OpenAI’s JavaScript pixel and, where possible, the Conversions API, which OpenAI describes as the more reliable source. We also tag landing page URLs with UTM parameters and pass the source into your CRM, so a click can be followed through to a booked job or a sale.

No. Ads and answers are separate, so paying for one does not influence the other. Being named in AI answers depends on your content, reviews and mentions across the web, which is the work of generative engine optimization.

Each engagement is scoped individually and quoted at a fixed price in a written proposal after a 30-minute strategy meeting. Cost depends on readiness work such as landing pages or tracking fixes, the number of offers tested and the reporting depth you need. Ad spend is paid directly to OpenAI and is separate from our fee.
